According to the Ontario Chief Medical Officer of Health, now isn’t the best time to get the COVID-19 booster.
As transmission rates dwindle during the summer months, individuals who are eligible now for a booster should consider delaying their COVID-19 booster until fall 2023. You are eligible to receive a booster if six months has passed since their last booster or COVID-19 infection.
It’s expected that by September, the respiratory season will begin. Delaying the booster until the fall would maximize protection against COVID-19 outcomes when peak circulation of the virus is expected. That said, a booster dose prior to the fall may be appropriate for certain individuals based on their unique health status and personal situation.
If you are ever unsure, discuss the matter with your health care provider. Recommendations for fall booster doses will be available closer to fall 2023.
