Established in 2006, National Puppy Day is a paw-some day for dog enthusiasts to celebrate unconditional love and fawn over the undeniably cute furballs that bring so much happiness into the world.
Today is also designed to raise awareness about puppy mills and help prospective pet owners consider adoption.
National Puppy Day (mar23) and National Dog Day (aug26) are great opportunities to adopt a dog from a shelter or a rescue group.
If you are having trouble picking a moniker for your new pup, the latest from the American Kennel Club indicates the top 10 names for your male pooch are: Max, Milo, Cooper, Charlie, Teddy, Tucker, Buddy, Bear, Rocky and Leo.
If you have a female dog: Luna, Bella, Daisy, Lucy, Willow, Penny, Sadie, Maggie, Rosie and Ruby are tops.
And for those who prefer the company of cats…
You can celebrate everything feline on National Cat Day, October 29.
If you have been thinking about a new “best friend” consider checking out some of these locations that offer adoptions and if you are on the fence, maybe consider fostering a dog until they find their fur-ever home.
pic: This is my pup Larry. He is actually 3 years old, so technically a dog. But not having a family to call his own until now, he missed out on a lot of puppy firsts.
So my family gets to provide him with a stable home to act out all his crazy puppy antics.
Larry was adopted from Project Paws Dog Rescue in Barrie.
