Police in Ontario have made it easier for officers to catch drivers for minor infractions after licence plate scanning technology was expanded this week.
OPP Sergeant Kerry Schmidt says the new technology, called the Automatic Licence Plate Reader, has been used in the GTA and will roll out further in the coming weeks.
The system instantly notifies police of various issues such as expired registration, arrest warrants, or if a vehicle is stolen.
It can also capture vehicles of interest during Amber Alerts.
