Seven environmental and community groups are in Federal Court, concerned over the denial of an impact assessment for the Bradford Bypass highway project.
The groups say federal Minister of Environment and Climate Change Steven Guilbeault’s decision sets a dangerous precedent for federal decision-making.
They claim in addition to increasing carbon and air pollution, the proposed highway will have a significant impact on wildlife habitats and watersheds.
The proposed sixteen-kilometre freeway is located in Simcoe County and York Region.
Environmental groups have raised concerns the provincial government is pushing the project forward without considering the impacts it might have on the environment and climate.
