After working in and helping to manage her family’s construction wholesale supply business in Toronto, Linda Spurr took on the role of General Manager at the ABIA.
She says after moving to New Tecumseth to raise a family she put full time work on the back burner and began to volunteer in the community.
It started with school events and she enjoyed the planning that went into it so much she went back to school herself.
Spurr graduated from the Event Management program at Georgian College and that coupled with her background in small business led to her current role.
The Alliston Business Improvement Association works to oversee the planning and implementation of activities within the area.
Spurr says the members are mostly long time business owners who can offer advice.
She says much of what the ABIA does, from the RURBAN events to the Farmers Market are all done to bring the community together and showcase what New Tecumseth has to offer.
She says it is a team effort and done for the betterment of the community and the local economy.
But Spurr says it is satisfying work to be able to show off the community to visitors.
