South Simcoe Police have issued a correction after identifying inaccuracies in their calls for service data, initially flagged by an unusual spike in reported numbers for January 2025.
A closer review revealed that electronic ticketing data had been double-counted due to a software filter issue, dating back to the launch of a pilot project in late 2022. The problem continued into 2023 and 2024 as the system was rolled out service-wide.
As a result of a thorough re-analysis:
-
2024 occurrences were revised from 30,636 to 28,534 (a difference of 2,102).
-
2023 figures dropped from 29,875 to 28,196 (1,679 fewer).
-
2022 showed a minimal change (24,719 to 24,690).
-
January 2025 totals were adjusted from 3,543 to 2,778, including 214 calls mistakenly reported from another service.
The miscount only affected proactive enforcement statistics and did not alter reactive call data, which remains accurate.
