Schools within the Simcoe County and Muskokas district continue to struggle following back-to-back storms.
Both the Simcoe County District School Board (SCDSB) and Simcoe Muskoka Catholic District School Board (SMCDSB) have announced closures for Thursday, April 3rd.
Starting with the SCDSB, they say that power outages have been ongoing at a number of their schools. As a result, the following schools will be closed to students and staff today:
- Brechin Public School
- East Oro Public School
- Forest Hill Public School
- Goodfellow Public School
- Guthrie Public School
- Holly Meadows Elementary School
- Marchmont Public School
- Rama Central Public School
- Severn Shores Public School
- Shanty Bay Public School
- Uptergrove Public School
- WR Best Memorial Public School
They also note that Orillia is also experiencing major issues. Orillia schools that remain closed today include:
- Couchiching Heights Public School
- Harriett Todd Public School
- Lions Oval Public School
- Orchard Park Public School
- Orillia Learning Centre
- Orillia Secondary School
- Regent Park Public School
- Simcoe Shores (Orillia campus)
- Twin Lakes Secondary School
As for the SMCDSB, their schools in Orillia and the District of Muskoka continue to be under a state of emergency order. Power continues to be slowly restored across the area, but many roads have caused issues for commuters. The OPP has recommended a Shelter in Place so that the clean up can be safely facilitated. A decision has been made for the following schools to remain closed Thursday, April 3rd:
- District of Muskoka (Monsignor Michael O’Leary, St. Dominic and Saint Mary)
- Orillia (St. Bernards, Monsignor Lee, Notre Dame, Patrick Fogarty and Foley)
Students and staff have the day off, and childcare centres will be closed.
