A trial began Thursday for two suspects accused of killing Ontario Provincial Police officer Grzegorz Pierzchala in December 2022.
The Crown claims one of the suspects shot Pierzchala while he responded to a routine call about a car in a ditch west of Hagersville near Brantford, and the other assisted him.
After the shooting, the suspects allegedly stole a car and fled, prompting a police manhunt.
Surveillance footage from Pierzchala’s body camera will be shown in court, capturing the moments before and after his death.
Witnesses are expected to testify about the events, with the trial expected to last six weeks.
Both accused have pleaded not guilty.
