Believe it or not, the Alliston Hornets are actually mortal!
The team went through the 2024-2025 only suffering two losses, and neither of them were in regulation. That dominance was reflected in the playoffs as the team managed to go undefeated through the first two rounds.
Heading into round three of the PJHL Playoffs against the Orillia Terriers, the Hornets were looking to add another series sweep to their belt.
Orillia was the first team to score in game one on Friday, March 21st at the New Tecumseth Recreation Centre, netting the go-ahead goal late in the first period. They’d follow that up with some insurance in the second period, and a dagger in the final frame.
The Terriers shutout the Hornets 3-0 in the first game.
Luckily for the Hornets, there was little time to rest.
Game two took place on Saturday, March 22nd, this time at the West Orillia Sports Complex.
Alliston opened the scoring, Aiden Landers netting his 2nd of the postseaon. The shorthanded goal was assisted by Will Millington. Orillia would tie it up shortly after, making it 1-1 after 20 minutes of action.
The Hornets would get an answer from their top scorer, Jaeden French. His 13th of the playoffs was assisted by Jacob Holmes on the powerplay. It’d be the lone goal of the second period, giving the Hornets a 2-1 lead heading into the finale frame.
Orillia would quickly tie the game in the first minute of the third period. The tie didn’t last long, as just under two minutes later, Mark Coish buried his 4th of the postseason, assisted by Holmes and Cole Turcotte. That’d prove to be the game winner, as the Hornets beat the Terriers 3-2 to clinch game two of the series.
Owen Butler was in net for the Hornets, stopping 21 of 23 shots to get the series-tying win.
Game three is set for Monday, March 24th at the New Tec Rec Centre. It’ll start at 7:30 p.m. Ticket information can be found here.
