A driver in Alliston has been arrested for impaired driving, while also being a novice driver.
On Saturday, March 15th, at roughly 11:00 a.m., officers from the Nottawasaga OPP detachment responded to a traffic complaint on westbound Highway 89 in Alliston. The complaint reported a passenger vehicle tailgating, swerving, and passing on the shoulder of the road – all considered extremely dangerous driving behaviors.
Officers were able to quickly locate the vehicle and charged the 24-year-old driver for the following violations:
- Operating a vehicle with a Class G1 licence without being accompanied by a qualified driver
- Failing to surrender a driver’s licence upon request
As a Class G1 driver, you must follow specific rules to ensure everyone’s safety on the road:
- Must be accompanied by a fully licensed (G) driver who has at least 4 years of driving experience
- This driver must sit in the front passenger seat
- Zero alcohol tolerance — no drinking and driving
- No driving between midnight and 5:00 a.m. unless accompanied by a qualified driver
- No driving on 400-series highways or high-speed roads (unless accompanied by a qualified driver)
