A Toronto man was sentenced to five years in prison this week, for the 2020 death of a dump truck driver near Alliston.
The judge described the man’s actions as “morally culpable”, after he was convicted of criminal negligence causing death.
The man, who was the driver’s supervisor ignored concerns about a faulty truck the night before the crash, which occurred when the vehicle’s tire blew, causing it to crash into a ditch.
An expert testified that the truck’s poor condition, particularly the tire, made the crash unavoidable.
The judge also criticized the man’s history of violations and poor record-keeping.
