The Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario has fined the licensed operator of retail chain Cannabis Xpress, which has a location in Beeton.
After receiving a tip, the AGCO began an investigation and found the so-called “Data Services Program” that Cannabis Xpress was operating was an incentive program.
Giving certain cannabis producers preferential treatment in exchange for a fee or cut of profits.
The Standards prohibit Ontario cannabis retailers from asking for OR accepting incentives from producers as a condition of selling or giving preferential treatment to products in their stores.
It was found that the licensee attempted to disguise the illegal payments as agreements for the sale of data for business intelligence purposes.
There are 14 locations in Ontario.
The chain is facing a fine of $200,000.
