Dufferin County resident and OPP Detective Sergeant Steve Coburn has completed what is considered, “one of the toughest swims on the planet”.
An Ice Mile is a one-mile swim in water temperature measuring five degrees Celsius or less.
Steve started training for the feat not really knowing much about it, just the idea to do something special to continue his long time commitment to bring financial support to food programs in our community.
Steve is the founder of Compass Run for Food – an annual run dedicated to raising money for established food programs in Dufferin County.
Steve jumped in water temperature that went from 3.6 to 4.7C at 6:57AM with air temperature of 0C.
47 minutes later, he became just the 3rd Canadian man in recorded history, to swim an Ice Mile.
