A piece of history has been added to Bradford West Gwillimbury’s new Fire Station on Melbourne Street.
The fire bell from the original Barrie Street Fire Hall was refurbished and equipped with an electronic striker then installed in Fire Station 1’s bell tower.
Bells were first installed at Fire Halls in the late 1800s to signal the beginning of the day’s shift.
The bells would also serve as an alert to summon fire fighters to a call and to protect their community.
The 123-year-old bell was first hung at Bradford’s first Fire Hall at 50 Barrie Street in the late 1800s.
