Schreiner told myFM he has been advocating for outdoor classrooms and he says the idea seems to be picking up steam at Queen’s Park.
Education Minister Stephen Lecce says he will be announcing a return to school plan this week — with just six week left before students are due to go back to class.
Earlier this summer, the province announced a hybrid model in which students will partially return to classrooms and then be expected to learn remotely online.
Many are worried about children being exposed to COVID-19 when they return to classrooms in September but parents are also stressed about having to scramble once more to find child care arrangements.
Schreiner says outdoor classrooms can address both concerns since scientists know the virus doesn’t transmit well outdoors and the model will also increase physical footprints at schools to ensure physical distancing.
